BURBANK, Calif. (December 10, 2010) — Do you believe in heroes? If so, The CW’s hit series “Smallville” (Fridays, 8:00–9:00 p.m. ET/PT) wants to hear from you. Fans of “Smallville,” from Warner Bros. Television, will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to appear in an upcoming episode of the 10th and final season via the “Smallville:” Believe in Heroes Challenge, a 10-day promotion running from Friday, December 10—Monday, December 20, on CWTV.com.

  • In the episode “Beacon,” to be broadcast on Friday, February 4, Clark (series star Tom Welling) is at an emotional crossroads, with Metropolis divided by a clash between supporters of the government’s Vigilante Registration Act and opposing rallies to generate support for indispensable heroes like The Blur.
  • Clark’s friends assure him that he is, indeed, making a difference in his crime-fighting role as The Blur, and to prove their point, they show him videos from the Internet in which ordinary citizens express what The Blur means to them, what it means to be a hero – and what it means to have heroes and believe in them. One of these videos could be yours!
  • And this is where “Smallville” fans come in!

Here’s how it works:

  • Beginning Friday, December 10, at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time, and continuing through Monday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time, “Smallville” fans can submit their own video testimonial as one of these hopeful citizens by uploading videos to The CW’s official website at http://www.cwtv.com/smallville
  • In these videos, viewers – speaking in character as impassioned citizens of Metropolis and around the world, fighting for the rights of their heroes – can express what The Blur means to them and talk about why they believe in these super heroes.
  • “Smallville” producers and the CWTV.com team will review the submissions and select a number of the user-submitted videos for broadcast as the testimonials that Clark watches during the “Beacon” episode airing Friday, February 4 (8:00–9:00 p.m. ET/PT) on The CW.
  • In addition to selecting the winning videos to be used in the episode, the “Smallville” producers and CWTV.com team will also select a number of additional favorite videos that will be posted to CWTV.com following the broadcast.

Supernatural Wins TV Guide Magazine’s Fan Favorite Poll

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

THE VOTES ARE IN…

“SUPERNATURAL” WINS TV GUIDE MAGAZINE’S FIRST ANNUAL FAN FAVORITE POLL

5.5 Million Votes Cast

Series Stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles Featured on Cover of December 13 Issue, on Newsstands Thursday, December 9

NEW YORK (December 6, 2010) – The votes are in and the fans have spoken. TV Guide Magazine, the nation’s premier television entertainment magazine, today announced that The CW’s Supernatural, from Warner Bros. Television, has won its first annual Fan Favorite cover poll. As a result, Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles will be featured on the cover of the December 13 issue, which hits newsstands on Thursday, December 9. Currently in its sixth season, Supernatural airs Fridays at 9/8c on The CW.

This fall, for the first time in its 57-year history, TV Guide Magazine gave television fans the opportunity to decide the cover subject of the December 13 issue. The poll attracted 5.5 million votes from TV fans all over the country. The results were close, but an impressive last-minute surge pushed Supernatural over the top.

Supernatural packs in plenty of action, gore and creepy creatures to satisfy viewers, but what earned the show so many hard-core fans is the familial bond between the Winchester brothers, played by Padalecki and Ackles.

“As the ultimate resource for TV enthusiasts, we created the fan favorite cover poll to engage our readers and fans,” said Debra Birnbaum, Editor-in-Chief, TV Guide Magazine. “With 5.5 million votes, in addition to countless blogs and tweets, TV Guide Magazine’s Fan Favorite cover poll is a true testament to the power of passionate fans in today’s television landscape. The fans spoke and we’re thrilled to feature Supernatural on our cover.”

Supernatural was chosen by fans from a pool of six programs across the major broadcast networks, selected by the editors of TV Guide Magazine, the #1 authority on all things television. Fans were invited to vote online through a specially-created site for the poll. Voting took place from October 19 – November 1, 2010, and fans could vote as often as they liked. The five runners-up of the Fan Favorite contest included Bones (FOX), Castle (ABC), Chuck (NBC), How I Met Your Mother (CBS) and Smallville (The CW).

TV Guide Magazine visited the Supernatural set in November for the cover story, which offers Superfans a look at what’s coming up later this month and in 2011.

Jared Padalecki on the show’s committed fans: “Our fans have been a huge part of the show. We have such a committed following. They’re keeping us alive, and they’re keeping the story alive.”

Jensen Ackles on the show’s loyal fan base: “We have an incredibly loyal, devoted–and aggressive–fan base. It’s nice when the show can get recognized, not only for us, but for the fans as well. They like to brag about the show.”

Executive producer Robert Singer on why fans voted again (and again) to win the Fan Favorite cover: “It starts with the two guys. People love their relationship. Jared and Jensen were a perfect pairing from the beginning. Television is, more than anything, about characters, and that’s what the audience initially responded to before we hit our stride with our stories.”

In addition to Padalecki and Ackles, Misha Collins stars in Supernatural, and Jim Beaver is a recurring guest star. The series was created by Eric Kripke, and the executive producers are Singer, Sera Gamble, Kripke, Ben Edlund, Phil Sgriccia and McG. Supernatural is produced by Wonderland Sound and Vision in association with Warner Bros. Television.
